VITICOLA MENTRIDANA El Mentridano 2021 Valle Del Alberche DO Mentrida Toledo Spain 75cl Red

€2135 EUR

Grape Variety: Grenache 100%

From the vineyards of Curro Barreño (who has already made a name for himself with his wines at Fedellos do Couto!), planted in the village of Méntrida at an altitude of 600 meters. Located where the Alberche changes course from southeast to southwest before joining the Tagus, it is a landscape of meadows and holm oaks. Mentridano is therefore a more Mediterranean expression of Gredos.

Vinification: Whole bunches and short 8-day maceration, then aging in large oak barrels.

Terroir: Sandy and granitic soils, the vines of the Curro family, planted in the village of Méntrida at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. Located where the Alberche changes course from southeast to southwest before joining the Tagus, it is a landscape of sandy and granitic soils, meadows, and holm oaks. Mentridano is therefore a more Mediterranean expression of Gredos. Yet, it remains light under the care of Curro, who first became known for his ethereal wines at Fedellos.

Tasting Notes: Pale and very floral, the fruit is supported by a structured mineral touch and delicate tannins. A burst of fresh fruit and oriental spices. Enjoy with sweetbreads in a parsley and garlic sauce with pan-fried mushrooms, for example!

🍷 Serving temperature 18°, decanting recommended 1 to 2 hours before serving

Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi worked in the family estate for several years before creating his own winery, which is located in a small village in La Sierra de Gredos (southwest of Madrid) in the Méntrida appellation (Spain). Deeply rooted in tradition, since 2004 he has embarked on the production of true terroir wines by rehabilitating certain abandoned plots. A lover of old terroirs and old vines, he is also involved in another wine project close to his heart: Comando G. The terroir consists of granitic soils, with altitudes close to 800m, and a flagship grape variety, Grenache. The old vines resist long winters and hot summers. The estate's 27 hectares are farmed organically, and some plots have been biodynamic since 2007.

Viticulture is practiced with respect for nature and its typicality, in an ecological way (manual soil work and low intervention) and 1/3 of the vineyard is biodynamic. Here, there is no use of chemicals and sulfur doses are minimal. Daniel Gomez Jiménez-Landi uses 500L barrels for aging, so as to mark the wines as little as possible and allow the fruit and minerality of the terroir to express themselves.
