CLOS HIRISSOU Durif 2022 Vin de France (Gaillac) 75cl Red
Grape variety: 100% Durif (also known as Petite Syrah)
Terroir: Upper clay-limestone hillside
Tasting notes: The nose and palate come together in a beautiful basket of ripe red and black fruits, with subtle spice, pepper, and a hint of smoke. Fine tannins and bright freshness bring perfect balance to the wine’s ripe fruit character.
🍷 Serving temperature: 16–17°C – decant before serving
Located on the hillsides of Sénouillac, in the heart of the Premières Côtes, this is a family estate dating back to 1860. Once planted entirely with vines between 1860 and 1980, the site is a historic landmark in the Gaillac region.
Today, the property is a model of biodiversity:
– 2 km of wild hedgerows
– 300 olive trees
– 150 fruit trees
– 40 citrus trees
– 20 truffle oaks
– 20 walnut trees
– 600 immortelle plants
– and hundreds of other plant varieties; all preserved alongside the area’s remarkable natural ecosystem.
This stunning south/north-facing slope features clay-limestone soils with limestone bedrock visible at the bottom of the slope and just one metre deep at the top. The vineyard is planted at high density (7,000 vines/hectare) with original choices like Durif (Petite Syrah) and Chenin, native to Aveyron and Saumur in the Loire Valley. The Clos has been farmed organically from the very beginning.
