In the Basque countryside, a discreet still produces spirits that are both traditional and modern. Sugaar produces high-end spirits whose main ingredients come from the Basque Country.
In Basque mythology, the word "Sugaar" means "de sua" (fire) and "gar" (flame), a pre-Christian deity, husband of Mari, primordial goddess of nature. Represented by a dragon or a serpent, he periodically joins Mari in the mountains to generate storms. He is one of the principles of the creation of the world. Additionally, there is a myth in which he seduces a Scottish princess in the village of Mundaka, to conceive the mythical first lord of Biscay, Jaun Zuria.
