FORJAS DEL SALNES

One of the smallest wineries in Rias Baixas, with 12 hectares, it is also one of the most highly prized by connoisseurs. Since 2005, the current generation, with Rodriguez Méndez at the helm, has been producing superb white wines, as well as red wines with a distinctive Atlantic (and Galician) character. Here, winemaking involves minimal intervention and the vines are pampered. Be warned, these are wines for connoisseurs!

The vineyards are located very close to the Atlantic, at altitudes below 100 meters. The soils are mainly granitic, often with sand on the surface. These are fairly acidic, permeable, and deep soils. Typical Albariño grape varieties, mainly from old vines, are cultivated, along with red varieties (admittedly, illustrious unknowns), Caíño, Loureiro, and Espadeiro.
