JEAN-CLAUDE MARSANNE
For several generations, the Marsanne family has been working in Mauves in Ardèche, long before the Saint Joseph appellation was created. At that time, wine was sold in tanks to négociants or cooperatives and blended with other wines of different origins. The appellation was created in 1956, and finally, lovers of fine wines could identify the origin of the wine and notice the quality of this terroir. At the estate, 6 hectares of vines are cultivated using traditional methods. The Syrah grapes are destemmed and placed in open stainless steel tanks where they ferment for 3 or 4 weeks thanks to indigenous yeasts. The grapes are trodden twice a day to submerge the cap and achieve better extraction. Aging takes place in 228-liter and 600-liter oak barrels for 12 to 18 months. The white wines, on the other hand, are aged for 12 months.
