DOMAINE DAMIENS Saint Jean 2022 Madiran 75cl Red

€1668 EUR

Grape variety: 100% Tannat

Terroir: Gravelly, siliceous soils on the upper slopes, with a clay subsoil rich in decomposed grepp and manganese.

The Madiran “Saint Jean” comes from the estate’s oldest vines. It takes its name from the ancestor who planted this particular parcel, as well as from the neighbouring church, whose stained-glass window reflects the complexity and elegance of this dense, full-bodied wine.

Tasting notes: Deep, inky colour. Intense aromas of ripe fruit and spices. Fleshy and generous on the palate, bursting with black fruit, combining velvety texture with power.

Food pairings: Duck confit, duck breast, game, rich sauces, roast leg of lamb and mature cheeses.

🍷 Serving temperature: 17-18°C

In 2008, Pierre-Michel Beheity from the estate Domaine Damiens in Aydie, close to the town of Madiran, began restructuring the original high-density vineyard, with a particular focus on Tannat. He also explored new terroirs by purchasing a new hillside plot and renting vines in a neighbouring village. Part of the original vineyard was deliberately preserved in order to retain a valuable stock of old vines.

At the same time, after considerable work, he converted the estate’s 16 hectares to organic farming. Today, his younger sister Marie has joined him at the domaine, continuing the family tradition of winegrowing
