MASCAREIL Géode 2022 IGP Côtes Catalanes 75cl Red
Grape varieties: Approximately equal blend of Carignan and Grenache Noir
Winemaking: During winemaking, the extraction methods used favor gentle actions. Maceration lasts 3 to 4 weeks. Afterwards, the new wines are partly aged in barrels.
Terroir: The soils are composed of red and yellow clays mixed with calcite chips, a major characteristic of the Aspres terroir. The site is preserved in the middle of the garrigue of the Castelnou plateau, at an altitude of 300 m.
Tasting: The color is intense, dark. Notes of freshly crushed black fruits, particularly sun-ripened blackberry and blackcurrant, are enhanced by a toasted hint reminiscent of chocolate. The attack is smooth, despite a beautiful density and a chiseled structure. The aromatic freshness quickly transports us to slightly spicy blackcurrant aromas.
🍷 Serve at 15/17°C, decant 1 hour before serving to fully enjoy the aromatic appreciation of this cuvée.
David Château, the winemaker, has a background in agriculture and winemaking,
with experience in Burgundy, Oregon, and Bordeaux. His journey then led him to Domaine du Mascareil, in Castelnou (66), where he immediately committed his estate to organic and biodynamic practices (AB and Demeter certifications), aiming to create a living and balanced ecosystem.
A 6-hectare vineyard nestled in the cool at 300 meters altitude in the Aspres, in the heart of preserved nature; the vines, surrounded by Mediterranean garrigue, are located on a terroir of red and yellow clays mixed with limestone chips. Planted only with indigenous grape varieties such as Carignan, Grenache, and Mourvèdre (some of which date back to 1962).
