Terroir: Located between 400 and 500 metres of altitude. Reddish, clayey soils on metamorphic slates
Vinification : Inox, native yeast
Tasting Notes: A beautiful expression of the Mencía grape, with aromas of red and black fruits, lifted by an Atlantic influence that brings plenty of freshness.
Before becoming known as the enfant terrible of Spanish wine, Telmo Rodríguez began his career in wine at his family estate, Bodega Remelluri.
Basque by origin, but feeling a strong affinity with French culture, Telmo Rodríguez studied winemaking at the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology, before gaining experience at Château Petit-Village in Pomerol, Domaine Jean-Louis Chave and Domaine de Trévallon.
With little money to his name, Telmo returned to Spain in search of abandoned terroirs and old vineyards that bore witness to an ancestral form of viticulture, miraculously surviving after years of neglect. He initially bought grapes to make his first wines. His first major success came in Málaga with Molino Real.
Today, the Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez works with vineyards across Spain, producing and selling wines under its own name.
