Domaine de la Tour du Bon - Cave du Palais, 64000 Pau

Domaine de la Tour du Bon

A fabulous bottle shared with friends on a balmy summer evening this week accompanied with stuffed vegetables moussaka style! I was inspired to post when I saw that a sommelier I follow on Instagram @pascalinelepeltier had also enjoyed the same wine this week but a year older!

Domaine de la Tour du Bon in le Brûlat du Castellet, Bandol... a vineyard beautifully situated with dramatic views of the Var. Absolutely worth a visit 😍. The Saint Ferréol 1998, which takes the name from the parcel whereupon the vines are situated, had a fine velvety, silky texture with herbaceous notes and a fresh dark fruit and still seemed so young despite it’s 20/21 years of age! I think we will wait another few years before opening another bottle to see how it evolves 😉. A dominance of Mourvèdre, I couldn’t find the exact percentage for the 1998 but the 1997 has 1% grenache and the 1999 has 10% Carignan. The Mourvèdre is a dominant grape varietal found in Bandol as well as the Rhone, Provence and Corbière where it is mainly a blending grape. A full bodied grape with soft tanins and expresses a fabulous balance between the land of provence (garrigue, forest, pines) and the rich fruit (cassis, blackberry, blueberry). The spices in the stuffed vegetables (lamb) went really well with the herbaceous notes in the wine.

Note the quality of the cork! •
