In the village of Ottrott, where Benedictine monks brought Pinot Noir from Burgundy in 1109, the Fritz family has been making wine since 1905. It is a true family story; parents, son, and daughter all work together to highlight Alsace’s classic white varieties, but above all to showcase the village’s famous red wine of Ottrott. The iron-rich soils here lend a distinctive character to Pinot Noir. The Schmitt family now runs the estate following a biological and nature-respecting philosophy, while preserving the Alsatian tradition of ageing in large oak foudres.
