In Haute-Saône, in Champlitte, north-east of Dijon in Burgundy, Pascal Henriot has been producing organic wines with minimal sulphur since 1985. Today, Orane oversees the cultivation of the estate’s 7 hectares, planted at 300 metres above sea level across two separate parcels: Les Monts Cairs and Les Folains.
Grown on clay-limestone soils of coralline origin dating from the Cretaceous period, the domaine cultivates Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as Alsatian varieties such as Gewürztraminer, Muscat à petits grains, Pinot Gris and Auxerrois.
In a true spirit of peasant common sense, the vines grow alongside rye and buckwheat in a form of benevolent mutual support. The wines are unpretentious, with a clear intention to offer a pure and sincere expression, sometimes generous and approachable, sometimes deeper, depending on the terroir.
