Fourth generation of the Seale family, owners of a distillery in Barbados since 1883. In 1992, Richard Seale joined the family business and purchased Doorlys and Old Brigand. In 1996, he founded the Foursquare distillery on the site of the former sugar factory-distillery of the same name.
Foursquare produces molasses rums. Fermentation is carried out with South African yeasts. Distillation is done with a triple Coffey column and a pot still. It is the blending of these two distillations and their aging that are key to the final result of old rums, a method specific to Barbados.
Foursquare rums are aged in bourbon barrels and often with a double maturation; Port, Sherry, Madeira casks… The "exceptional casks" series has been very successful with Détente, Redoutable, Dominus, Empery… But it is also Richard Seale's passion for authentic rums that led him to collaborate with Luca Gargano of Velier; Plenipotenziario, Triptych, Destino…
