DOMAINE CASTERA Memòria 2024 VdF (Jurançon) 75cl White

€2260 EUR

Grape varieties: Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng

Terroir: A micro-parcel in the Caubeigt lieu-dit, planted in 1971, covering 1.4 hectares and co-planted with both varieties.
South-West and west-facing exposure. Silty-clay soils with gravel. Slopes of 10-20%.

Vinification / Ageing: Fermented and aged in sandstone eggs and wooden vessels of various sizes (barrels, 400-litre casks and demi-muids).
Aged on lees for 10 months, followed by 2 months in stainless steel tanks.

Style: Demi-sec - 20 g/L residual sugar

Tasting notes: A true expression of freshness and exotic fruit, delightfully generous, making it a perfect match for chicken tagine with preserved lemons, falafels, or a tapas-style aperitif with mature goat’s cheese.

🍷 Serving temperature: 10–12 °C

Cellaring potential:
8–10 years

Drawing on his experience abroad, Franck Lihour returned in 2014 to take over the five-generation family estate, established in 1885.
The vineyard comprises four lieux-dits divided into 14 micro-parcels, each farmed according to altitude, ripeness and grape variety.

The vines are worked with traditional, observation-led farming practices, guided by experience and intuition. Vineyard diseases are managed using natural products (copper, sulphur, essential oils), while soils are nourished with manure, minerals and diverse plant cover (cereals, legumes and cruciferous plants).

Harvesting is carried out by hand, with successive selective pickings. Vinifications remain simple, and ageing is gentle (stainless steel, large-format vessels and sandstone eggs).

The result: authentic wines that are both fruit-driven and deep, revealing the full minerality of Jurançon’s finest terroirs.
