In Haute-Saône, in Champlitte, north-east of Dijon in Burgundy, Pascal Henriot has been making organic wines with minimal sulphur since 1985. Today, Orane oversees the management of the estate’s 7 hectares, planted at 300 metres above sea level across two distinct parcels: Les Monts Cairs and Les Folains. On clay-limestone soils of Cretaceous coral origin, the domaine grows Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as Alsatian varieties such as Gewürztraminer, Muscat à Petits Grains, Pinot Gris and Auxerrois. Guided by sound, traditional farming sense, vines grow alongside rye and buckwheat in a spirit of mutual support. The wines are unpretentious, with the clear intention of offering honest, sincere drinking pleasure, whether immediate and generous or deeper, depending on the terroir.
