We had a great evening in the company of Maxime Gilger, Ambassador of the "Jura distillery"....and we tasted the different Single Malts in the following order: 10 year old Legacy, 16 year old Diurach's own, 12 year old Elixir, Prophecy (peated) and 21 year old....(too bad for those who missed it!!)
Legacy 10 year old 40% - exclusively aged in Sherry casks, light, perfect for a smooth and sweet aperitif...
Diurach's Own 16 year old 40% - 90% aged in Bourbon casks and 10% in Oloroso Sherry casks (rather dulce) - more depth and relief, happily marked by the quality of the sherry cask.
Elixir 12 year old 46% - aged 50% in bourbon casks and sherry casks - spicier and more woody, marked by American white oak for its vanilla aspect but more masculine, powerful and drier (digestive).
Prophecy 46% - Sweet and Smoky as Maxime said... - and the sweetness of the peat carries you away... subtle and gentle smoky notes extending into licorice touches!!
21 year old 44% - aged 20 years in bourbon casks and 1 year in a 1963 amoroso (sweet oloroso) sherry cask... the year the distillery reopened!! Complex notes of marzipan, dried fruits and dark bitter chocolate, releasing cherries, oranges and fresh licorice in the mouth!! A beautiful journey through time!
Next week, on 24/09, a tasting of Guillon, a small French distillery in Champagne. (by reservation only)
