FAMILLE LABALLE

FAMILLE LABALLE

In 1820, Jean Dominique Laudet, returning from the West Indies where he spent over 20 years in the spice trade, decided to fulfill his dream: to dedicate the rest of his life to producing France's oldest spirit: Armagnac. Today, the estate also produces wine.

The vineyard is located on a unique, rare, and small terroir, known as Sables Fauves. These soils are well-known in Armagnac as they are the preferred soils of Bas-Armagnac, but the Laballe estate was the first to make wines on this terroir.

The Sables Fauves, clay-silt deposits on gentle slopes, are particularly rich in iron oxide, which brings significant minerality and freshness to the wines and armagnacs. From viticulture and soil management to winemaking and aging, everything is done to maximize the expression of this geographical area's unique characteristics. The Sables Fauves constitute the original identity of Château Laballe.
