BULLION Agricole 45.4% 70cl Madeira (O'Reizhino)

€4900 EUR

RUM BULLION is the old name for rum. Rum was first mentioned in documents from Barbados around 1650, referring to it as "Kill-Devil" or "Rumbullion" (a word possibly from Devonshire, England, meaning "great tumult"). In the English colonies, this alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane or molasses was called KillDevil, while in the French islands it was more commonly called Rumbullion (which can be translated as "sugarcane broth"). Later abbreviated, it became rum in English and rhum in French.

Tasting: Light esters on the nose, reminiscent of a Jamaican rum... The vegetal and earthy notes of sugarcane are present, along with lime. The palate is rather rich, with a surprising smoky and salty aspect, accompanied by beautiful citrus notes of brined green olives and a pleasant bitterness. The finish is dominated by licorice and pepper!

Alcohol: 45.4°

The O' Reizinho distillery was officially registered in 2013 on the island of Madeira, but it is in fact a much older affair. Before that, the Ferreira family had already been producing their "aguardente de cana" (sugarcane brandy) for several generations, for themselves and for a few friends. The distillery is still located in the basement of the house, and the traditional method remains unchanged.

Supplies come from local farmers, who cultivate the 6 varieties of sugarcane present on the small plots of this mountainous island. It is an agricultural rum, made from pure sugarcane juice, produced from their traditional Portuguese still. 3000 liters were produced in the first year, 2013, and production expanded to 15000 liters in 2018.

A very strict selection of a few rum casks from all regions and islands of the world made by the Boyer house as an independent bottler based in Les Landes in Saint Geours de Maremne.
