The Glover is a rare encounter between Japan and Scotland. Created by independent bottler Adelphi, this blended malt brings together Scotch whiskies from Longmorn in Speyside and Glen Garioch in the Highlands with a precious Japanese whisky from Hanyu, a distillery that has since closed.
This fourth edition pays tribute to Thomas Blake Glover, the Scottish adventurer known as the “Scottish Samurai”, who played a major role in Japan’s industrial modernisation during the 19th century.
After 18 years of maturation, this whisky reveals a copper-gold colour and a rich profile, with a more pronounced sherry-cask influence than previous releases. The nose combines old oak, orange zest, lime marmalade, mandarin, fresh grapes and Manuka honey. The palate is full and delicately waxy, balancing lively citrus freshness with generous notes of marzipan and milk chocolate. The long, harmonious finish unfolds with fresh pepper and the faintest hint of distant smoke. Tasting notes by master blender Alex Bruce.
Bottled in 2017 at 49.2% ABV, with no added colouring and without chill filtration, Batch 4 was limited to just 1,406 bottles. A rare and distinctive release that is generous, complex and beautifully balanced.
