CHATEAU DE MESSEY Mâcon Cruzille Avoueries Barramine 2021 75cl White
Grape Variety: Chardonnay 100%
Terroir: Le Clos des Avoueries is a high-altitude "clos" (390 m on average), surrounded by woods and dry stone walls. It faces east towards Mont Blanc. Its terroir is composed of red clay over a limestone slab and is vinified in micro-plots.
Tasting Notes: Complex and pastry-like nose, with menthol notes. The attack on the palate is ample and rich, the volume is balanced by the freshness of the terroir. The finish has a lot of personality and structure. Long and fresh finish! A place that speaks!
🍷 Serving temperature 12°, aging potential 6-8 years
It all started for Marc Dumont in 1989 with the acquisition and planting of a beautiful 6-hectare wood. Three years later, the first harvest was announced and it would be vinified at Château de Messey, in Ozenay. Built as a Romanesque fortress composed of two wings facing each other, this château, which today reflects its 16th-century form, has hosted many harvests throughout its history until 1958. Thirty-five years later, the beautiful vaulted cellars once again welcomed fermenting wines! It was in the same year that a Mâcon-Chardonnay plot was planted opposite the Château: the Crêts plot.
The Château de Messey estate has been certified organic since 2021. Today, it owns 10 hectares across two appellations. In addition to their original plot, there is the Clos des Avoueries, a high-altitude clos on a limestone terroir in Mâcon-Cruzille, and the Crêts plot, opposite the château, in Mâcon-Chardonnay. For winemaking, the Château de Messey estate uses no inputs that could alter the taste of each terroir. Only very small doses of SO2 are used. The result is superb; the wines are expressive with ripe fruit aromas but without any heaviness. An estate to discover!!
