DOMAINE CASTERA Caubeigt 2024 Jurançon 75cl Sweet white

€2670 EUR

Grape variety: 100% Petit Manseng

Terroir: Single-parcel “Caubeigt” (“bald valley”), 2.5 hectares, with clay-silica soils and rolled pebbles. Slopes of 10-25%, with south-west and west-facing exposure.

Vinification / Ageing: Fermented and aged in sandstone eggs and wooden vessels of various sizes (barrels, 400-litre casks and demi-muids).
Aged on lees for 10 months, followed by 2 months in stainless steel tanks.

Tasting notes: A beautiful golden colour. The nose is powerful, with candied exotic fruit and roasted pineapple. The palate is voluptuous and generous, underpinned by a remarkable acidity, typical of Jurançon moelleux wines, from the attack through to a long, lingering finish. A superb balance.

🍷 Serving temperature: 12 °C

Ageing potential: Excellent cellaring potential

Drawing on his experience abroad, Franck Lihour returned in 2014 to take over the five-generation family estate, established in 1885.
The vineyard comprises four lieux-dits divided into 14 micro-parcels, each farmed differently according to altitude, ripeness and grape variety.

The vines are worked with practical, observation-based farming sense, guided by experience and intuition. Vineyard diseases are managed using natural products (copper, sulphur, essential oils), while soils are nourished with manure, minerals and diverse plant cover (cereals, legumes, cruciferous plants).

Harvesting is carried out by hand, with successive selective pickings. Vinifications are kept simple, and ageing is gentle (stainless steel, large-format vessels, sandstone eggs).

The result: authentic, fruit-driven yet profound wines, expressing the full minerality of Jurançon’s finest terroirs.
