The Dupont family has a long tradition in apple growing in the Pays d'Auge, in this small corner of Normandy, since 1887. In 1980, Etienne Dupont took over the family estate, succeeding his father Louis. He expanded and modernized the estate while refocusing it on the production of cider and calvados. The old orchard was redeveloped, and ten new hectares of low-stemmed apple trees were planted. He traveled to Cognac to immerse himself in the best double distillation techniques. Etienne Dupont was also instrumental in the creation of the A.O.C. Pays d'Auge appellation. The poor soils of the Pays d'Auge, composed of marl and marly limestone from the Oxfordian (secondary era), limit the growth of trees, which thus produce only small fruits. The aromatic intensity is therefore stronger, and the skin/pulp ratio favors the extraction of tannins. The level of precision achieved in their range is what one would seek in wines.
