MASCAREIL L'Infiltré 2021 IGP Côtes Catalanes 75cl Red

Grape varieties: Predominantly Carignan with a touch of Grenache Noir

Vinification: The grapes are placed into vats after destemming, as the harvest progresses, following intra-plot selections thanks to a series of small-capacity tanks (30 hL). During vinification, gentle extraction methods are favoured. Maceration is relatively short, focusing on infusion rather than extraction. The wines are partly aged in barrels before being blended according to their evolution.

Terroir: The soils consist of red and yellow clays mixed with calcite fragments, a defining feature of the Aspres terroir. The vineyard site is preserved amidst the garrigue on the Castelnou plateau, at an altitude of 300 metres.

Tasting notes: The colour is ruby red. The aromas of stewed black fruits mingle with hints of undergrowth and leather. The attack is fresh and lively, followed by a fine tannic structure. The notes of small berries are enhanced by more powerful aromas on the finish.

🍷 Serving temperature: 15-17°C. Decant one hour before serving to fully appreciate the aromatic expression of this cuvée.

David Château, the winemaker, trained in agriculture and oenology, with experience in Burgundy, Oregon, and Bordeaux. His journey led him to Domaine du Mascareil in Castelnou (66), where he immediately adopted an organic and biodynamic approach (AB and Demeter certified), aiming to create a living, balanced ecosystem.

The 6-hectare vineyard, nestled in a cool area at 300 metres altitude in the Aspres, lies in the heart of unspoilt nature. Surrounded by Mediterranean garrigue, the vines grow on red and yellow clay soils mixed with limestone fragments. It is planted exclusively with native grape varieties such as Carignan, Grenache, and Mourvèdre; some of which date back to 1962.
