"ZOOM on... Sempre Cuntentu from Domaine Giacometti
It’s like marmite—you either love it or hate it. But let’s look beyond the brightly coloured, extra-wide smile designed by Anto, an Corsican artist fond of Pop culture, and open this bottle that promises to leave us “Always Happy.” And here, the wine lives up to its promise.
This 100% Sciaccarellu, the reigning grape variety of southern Corsica, is vinified here in the Patrimonio appellation zone, within the Agriates desert (which, I must admit, isn’t all that desert-like). It carries a Pinot Noir-like charm, unveiling aromas of cherry stone and raspberry, while still exuding Mediterranean fragrances that affirm its origins: notes of maquis scrubland, gentle spices, and a delicate touch of freshly ground pepper.
A wine of great silky elegance that leaves us with a light heart and a cheerful grin on our lips (a quick 30-minute decant before tasting is recommended 😉).
Cheers, and may you always be Sempre Cuntentu!"
Let us set the scene for you: Domaine Giacometti is nestled in an absolutely dreamy setting! Located in the heart of the Agriates Desert, near the Gulf of Saint-Florent, this family estate, now in its third generation, is run by siblings Sarah and Simon.
Despite its name, the Agriates Desert is far from barren. It has been part of the Patrimonio AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) since 1987, while the AOC itself dates back to 1968. This area is characterised by its granite soil and a basin-like morphology that retains water underground and allows the wind to sweep through. The wines are sun-kissed, incredibly juicy, and bursting with freshness! ☀️
