Back from our getaway in Burgundy and Languedoc. We took the opportunity to fill the van with some good bottles.
First, we headed to Burgundy, to the Château du Clos Vougeot for the tasting "Trilogy in Côte de Nuits". One vintage: 2013, three villages; Vosne Romanée/Chambolle Musigny/Morey Saint Denis and over forty winemakers, pretty cool stuff!!!
In summary, 2013 in Côte de Nuits is a vintage where the winemaker had to fight a ...hard battle against mildew and oidium to get healthy grapes! The harvest took place the second week of October, which hadn't happened since 1978! Overall, a year presenting wines that are refined, fruity, and very approachable.
On the way back, we stopped at Domaine Bart, to pick up some bottles of Burgundy red 2013 and Marsannay "Les Lonqeroies" 2012!!!
Off we go, heading to Faugères, first stop, Le Clos Fantine in Cabrerolles, for a tasting evening!
Corine and Carole let us taste Valcabrière 2014, a dry white wine made from "Terret", it's fine, taut with a saline finish! We then continued with the reds. The "Lanterne rouge" 2013, a blend of Aramon, Cinsault and Syrah skin, no, it's not a joke!!!! It produces a full, balanced, fresh wine, a superb thirst-quenching wine, it's just a bomb of fruit and pleasure!!! We continue with Clos Fantine 2013 in Faugères, a blend of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Mourvèdre, which is a bit more restrained for now, but the "Andrieux Family" touch is there! Nice fruit, it's round, it's fine, what a beautiful promise for the future.... and to finish, "Courtiol" 2013, 100% Grenache, it's racy, balanced with a beautiful structure and it already tastes very good but needs decanting!!! Loading a few bottles of all these beautiful cuvées into the van!
We then moved on to Domaine Binet-Jacquet where Pierre Jacquet had kept the last magnums of "Grande Réserve" 2011 for us against all odds... phew, we also picked up some "Réserve" 2012 and the estate's cuvée from 2013. We took advantage of our visit to taste the 2014s from the tanks.... We started with the Carignan, which is round, full, delicious, then the Cinsault, which is fine with a lot of elegance, and finally the Syrah, which is racy but tight with a little reduction for now.... it's normal... it's cold in the cellar!
